I’m going to put my hands up and declare it. When it comes to Fashion Week, I think classic couture, tailoring, obscure space aged garments and overwhelming sensory overload. When it comes to Fashion Week, I think of women.
This year however, my eyes have been opened (and occasionally distracted), by the emergence of truly exquisite collections throughout menswear.
I have always admired the functionality of male garments. They all have pockets – I love pockets. They all flatter and fall, starched into masterpieces. In actual fact, I think I may just have been frightfully jealous!
I have admired and, as one does, consulted a menswear fashion graduate to fix upon three of the essential colour directions emerging on the SS17 men’s catwalks. Blue Steel sees colour become more trans-seasonal as deeper hues bring an ice cool element to the catwalk. Classic khaki is updated with strong earth infused tones that reflect a more contemporary take on the utility trend while Atomic Coral imbues SS17 with a feminine touch in vibrant saturated coral hues.
Blue Steel
Deeper hues are transcending the season’s palette as deeper shades of blue emerge for SS17. Dusted mid-tones express an icy depth that lends a cooling touch and a steely sensibility to lightweight seasonal outerwear and sportswear co-ords.
Maximum Green
Earth toned khaki resonates with menswear’s utilitarian vibe for SS17. Foliage and undergrowth inspired shades are ideal for outerwear applications in both technical and natural fabrications with solid blocks of colour complementing a cleaner more contemporary silhouette.
Atomic Coral
Sun drenched coral tones inspired by tropical destinations pack a high summer punch in double-colour applications. Reflecting the trend for feminine nudes reworked for menswear, amplified peach hues make a statement across sportswear, denim and formal evening categories.
