Celebrate Shakespeare at the National Theatre with a free app for iPad and iPhone – now available to download.

2016 seems to be the year of every British literary anniversary, including the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. So it is with joy that we welcome the latest tool for sharing the stories, secrets and innovations of the Bard.

Designed and expertly curated by the National Theatre, the free app allows users to access an incredible archive of Shakespearean works via a modern channel.

After 55 main-house Shakespeare productions, the NT has cast the likes of Peter O’Toole, Sam Mendes, Maggie Smith and Derek Jacobi, remaining true to the roots and ideals that emanate from Shakespeare’s lines.

The app is packed with videos, production photographs, costume and set designs, annotated scripts and more. It gives a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the NT and demonstrates Shakespeare’s continuing relevance to the modern stage.

The National Theatre Shakespeare app is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The NT is part of the Shakespeare400 partnership coordinated by King’s College London.
